'I'm an artist'

that's what Sadie says when she introduces herself to people. ' I'm Sadie and I'm an artist'.

She's been drawing long before she could even talk, I bought her first art pad and crayons way back here. 

Drawing is part of her daily routine. 

She is spending more time on small details rather than colour at the moment.

Scarlett :: Part Three

These are the last shots of my photo shoot with Scarlett and Imogen.  

By this stage Scarlett had had enough and announced that she wanted to go home.

 At this moment I captured Scarlett looking ethereal in the late afternoon sun.  Her gorgeous hair glowed like autumn leaves, just beautiful.

Imogen's fairy land :: Part Two

Scarlett & Imogen :: Part One

I've been incredibly honoured this week to take photographs of these two little fire crackers, sisters Scarlett and Imogen.  

This was my first experience of photographing children other than my own, so I was a little apprehensive at first.    We met up at the park and mum was prepared with bags of beautiful dresses, costumes and props.  

I said to the girls "let's walk around the park, pretend I'm not there and lets see what happens".    They were having so much fun dancing and playing in the leaves, it was wonderful to capture their light hearted spirits.

After a while I wanted to take it down a key and get some moody shots.  While they were playing I asked each girl what their favourite thing in the world was.

Scarlett:  Horses, I love horses.  I want a horse.  I want a chestnut horse......

Imogen: Fairies, I love fairies (as she dances about)  If I had a fairy I would keep her in a shoe box......

"I like summer"

The sun is really hot

so I sit in the shade.

The plants like the sun,

the grass grows in the summer.

 

"I like autumn"

I like red leaves under my feet.

I like the nature leaves.

The nature leaves are so pretty,

they can change colour.

The birds are happy when it's autumn.

 

"I like winter"

Snow falling from the sky

Snow falling in my eyes.

I like blossom, the blossom is

very pretty,

the colour is white and pink.

The lambs are so warm 

in the spring sunshine.

 

 

Fair rerun

Due to the last Martinborough Fair being cancelled for the first time in 35 years because of the weather, the Rotary Club has announced that they will be rerunning the fair on the 5th May.

This is fantastic news for shoppers and stall holders.

 

I will be there with Fanatil Grove olive oil.  We are stall 1146.

Sweet Chestnuts

We headed out to the farm again this afternoon to collect some sweet chestnuts from the tree on the hill. 

 

Unlike horse chestnuts you can eat these, so we collected a basket full.

Enclosed in a prickly casing, the best way to get them out is to gently stamp on them with your gumboot and they pop out.

 

The tree is great for climbing too.  I think it's been here for a long time.

 

The children love it out here and sometimes I feel a little bad they we moved into town.  But I'm happy that we can still visit.

 

We then went back down the hill to explore the river.

 

Time to go home....

 

To cook chestnuts make a X with a sharp knife on the flat edge of each one (if you don't they will explode in the oven).  Heat the oven to 200 C and roast for 20 minutes.  Shell while still hot.  They are soft, earthy, nutty and delicious.  A little fussy to prepare, but worth it.
